3 Ways To Justify a “Staycation” At Hotel Blackhawk

3 Ways To Justify a “Staycation” At Hotel Blackhawk

  1. Less travel = More downtime to enjoy. When time is precious and time together is too far and few between, choosing a destination close to home is smart; less time spent on the road and more uninterrupted time together! Because at the end of the day, it isn’t about the elaborate destination but simply the company of each other somewhere that you feel at home.
  2. Everything you could ever want is at this hotel. Hotel Blackhawk is situated in the heart of Downtown Davenport. Within walking distance are some fantastic eateries and a whole slew of bars. The best part about this specific autograph collection hotel though is that there is no need to leave. With a bowling alley and martini bar in the basement, a spa, coffee shop, and a delicious on-site restaurant all situated on the main level, you will fall in love with the character, amenities, and service this hotel has. The employees all do a great job catering to your needs and making you feel special during your stay!
  3. Support your local community. There is nothing that makes me happier than a thriving downtown/community. Watching people pour their energy into a vision and physically seeing the good that comes out of their hard work is so motivating. I think Downtown Davenport specifically has a lot to be proud of. With this incredible hotel, plus the brand new sister hotel, The Current Hotel, as well as a few top notch bars & restaurants that are finding great success in their brand, this downtown is gaining a fresh new life! That’s encouraging and should motivate us all to “staycation” close to home in order to keep this area growing and thriving!

Give the experience rather than the gift this Christmas!

This Holiday season is the perfect chance to sneak away for a night and unwind for an evening at Hotel Blackhawk. Enjoy a refreshing drink at the Bix Bistro, stay for a delicious dinner, then wander downstairs for after dinner dessert martinis and a game of bowling! Schedule a relaxing facial or massage at the spa. Leave Hotel Blackhawk feeling refreshed and revived.

Let me know if you end up taking my advice! I would love to hear all about it!

Gifting Mama TIME This Mother’s Day

Gifting Mama TIME This Mother’s Day

Ever since I became a mama of my own (6 Mother’s Days ago), I have dedicated the first weekend of May to my mom and spent the second weekend in May with my littles and husband. The second weekend (Mother’s Day weekend) we usually end up spending all day outside, technology turned off, and just taking in precious moments I am never going to get back. I also make a point to eat one meal “picnic” style because my husband dislikes picnics and I find great joy in them! I know he won’t buck at any requests I have on Mother’s Day <3 Same goes for Father’s Day Spencer… we can go to your favorite buffet.

. . . . . .

This weekend we are coming up on the first weekend in May. Ever since I became a mother, time with my mom has dwindled. Not so much with our first born, but especially now with three little ones, I barely find time for brushing my teeth let alone one-on-one time with her. That is why I focus on TIME spent together verse giving gifts.

Past destinations: Platteville, WI | Galena, IL | Dubuque, IA | St. Louis, MO

This weekend we have decided to head west, with Des Moines (IOWA) being our final destination!

SATURDAY EXCURSION:

Williamsburg Outlet Mall is going to be our first planned stop (not to say we won’t find garage sales or a local bakery/coffee shop along the way).

What Cheer Flea Market just so happens to be going on, so weather pending, we will take a “quick” walk through.

Downtown Des Moines for dinner & dessert.

Ending the night watching the Iowa Cubs take on the Memphis Redbirds! Go Redbirds!

My mom represents selflessness and strength. For all she has done for me, it’s important for me to set aside time for her amongst all the chaos in life and spend time together.

. . . . . .

Big or small, be unique in showing love to your mom this Mother’s Day. Sometimes setting aside TIME is the best gift of all. Especially true in my season of life, when she must feel second to everything going on in my life as Spencer and I raise a family of our own.

“Mother’s love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible.”- Marion C. Garritty

I love you Mom- Looking forward to Saturday!

XOXO,

Emma

April kicks off to a great start with Junkstock, then Junk Bonanza, and ending the month in Des Moines at Junk Jubilee!

Anyone with the “junk bug” is starting to get antsy to stock up on one of a kind finds… Just in time for Spring, I am sharing with you the five best junking destinations in the Midwest region to cure the itch:

  5. Junk Bonanza in Minneapolis, MN
    • 2017 Dates: April 20-21-22 | September 21-22-23
    • An indoor market with the best vendors in the industry.
    • “It is the place for junkers, flea marketers, and antiquers.”

. . . . . .

I have big expectations to make it to all of these hot spots once this year. Check back in with me here [or on social media] if you end up at one of these events. I want to hear all about it… Show off your finds and leave me in junk envy!!

A few more to keep in mind are:

A Swanky QC Stay: Valentine’s Day

A Swanky QC Stay: Valentine’s Day

[HIP + HISTORIC] Hotel Blackhawk, Davenport, IA

Wine and dine your valentine. Do dinner + cocktails in the convenience of this beautiful hotel at their Bix Bistro. I have yet to order anything dissatisfying from here! Their clam chowder was to die for last time I was in… Heck, I don’t even have to stay here to entice myself to dine here!

There is bowling and a martini lounge on the bottom floor. This is a great place to go after the show at the Adler!

Many hotel packages available. See their website for more details.

Me & Billy [Bar & Eatery]

Located just one block from Hotel Blackhawk.

Do dinner here or just drinks and appetizers. The atmosphere cannot be beat! I do hear their burgers are top notch.

Adler Theatre

Playing on Monday, Feb 13, 2017: The comedy musical, 42nd Street.

. . . . . .

Map out your night to your liking. If I were to do this night with my husband, it would go something like this:

  • Check-in at 5 pm on 2/13 and have dinner reservations made at Bix Bistro for 6 pm
  • Spruce up in the hotel room
  • Head to Bix Bistro for a drink at the bar before dinner
  • 6 pm dinner
  • Catch the 7:30 show at The Adler Theatre: 42nd Street
  • Grab an after dinner drink at martini lounge + 1 game of bowling at Hotel Blackhawk after the show
  • Lights out
  • 2/14: Sleep in
  • Grab a burger at 11 am sharp at Me & Billy before getting back to the daily grind (because I like lunch food 10 x’s more than breakfast food ;))

This 18-hour getaway includes taking a 1/2 day off from work to play. I hope a couple can make it happen! Your significant other is worth it.

Whether you go big or small, acknowledging love is key. Loving unconditionally will be your life’s best investment.

Much {LOVE} From The Founder,

Emma Hicks
